Problem:
I was given the phrase “See where you get to; no pressure” as the brief. I could create any type of graphic design pieces I would like as long as there was some relation to the phrase.
Solution:
A US mega corporation looking to recruit a large, low to medium skilled work force to mine and colonise the Moon and Mars similarly to how Europe colonised The New World.
I researched similar events in the past like the colonisation of the New World, America’s expansion westward, and the UK mining industry. I also looked at the Space Race and private space corporations to see what motivations there are to go to space. Many Europeans and American travellers were motivated by ‘gold, glory, and god’. The motivations to go to space are quite similar, but with the lack of religion due to no indigenous populations to convert. I think, if given the right circumstances, many people today would apply for space work with the hope of a better life.
I chose the name Mundus Novus, as this is the original Latin form of the term “New World”, coined by
explorer Amerigo Vespucci. I also found most logos and illustration relating to space travel have an
up and to the right direction which conveys progress and innovation.
